Students Against Food Insecurity

Combating food insecurity at Tulane and in New Orleans

Our Mission

Founded in 2022, Students Against Food Insecurity (SAFI) is a student organization with a profound mission: to combat food insecurity within the Tulane University community and the broader city of New Orleans. We firmly believe that everyone is entitled to equitable access to nutritious food and are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of our fellow students and neighbors.

We recognize that food insecurity affects academic performance, physical health, and overall well-being. By fostering a supportive environment and promoting equitable access to resources, we aim to create a campus and a city where no one has to worry about where their next meal will come from.

What is Students Against Food Insecurity?

What We Do

SAFI has works to engage Tulane students with the broader New Orleans community to raise awareness about food insecurity and advocate for change. Through these efforts, we aim to create a network of support that extends far beyond the walls of our university, reaching individuals and families in need throughout the city.

How We Do It

SAFI is driven by the passion and dedication of Tulane University students who are determined to make a difference. Our primary initiative is the operation of a fully-stocked food pantry, open to all Tulane University undergraduate and graduate students. Located right next to campus at 7215 Zimpel St., our pantry provides a welcoming space where students can access essential food items, fresh produce, and other necessities, completely free of charge. Through this pantry, we strive to address immediate needs while also promoting education about nutrition and healthy eating habits.
